After finishing Stranger Things season 4 part 1, the cast played one of their characters’ favorite games, Dungeons & Dragons. The initial premise of Stranger Things sees Mike, Lucas, and Dustin as they discover the superpowered Eleven, a victim of human experimentation, while trying to find their missing friend, Will. The series tells the story of this group of friends and their guardians as they investigate the secret government experiments that resulted in their small town of Hawkins, Indiana becoming the gateway to the Upside Down.
Dungeons & Dragons was first published in the 1970s, quickly gaining extreme popularity with fantasy fans, although it has seen some controversy in its lifetime. The tabletop fantasy role-playing game kicks off Stranger Things, as the party bond over Mike’s 10-hour-long campaign that concludes with Will failing to protect himself from the Demogorgon, foreshadowing the events of season 1. The game seems to be bleeding into the characters’ lives as they find themselves surrounded by supernatural creatures. Familiar terms from Dungeons and Dragons pop up throughout the entirety of Stranger Things as the kids try to better understand the creatures of the Upside Down and the dangerous situations they find themselves in.
