Ask a lot of horror fans which was their favorite game of the last generation, and more than likely the name Dead Space will crop up in conversation. After nearly 14 years, the original Visceral Games title is now considered a classic, and with EA Motive confirming the remake will be out in 2023, it's a dormant franchise that is slowly coming back into the limelight after the flop that was the third game in 2013. Speaking of the remake, one thing that interests fans is seeing how a new reimagining stacks up against the original.
In a video uploaded to YouTube a couple of days ago, user Cycu1 has spliced together footage from Dead Space, both the 2008 release and the upcoming remake, to compare how they both look side-by-side. While the latter is still in development, and as such the demonstration is not representative of the final product, there are some notable differences between the two, particularly when it comes to the general atmosphere and lighting, as well as the weapons.
Dead Space Remake Introduces ALIVE System
For example, Dead Space's classic plasma cutter can be seen in both versions. While the original has a slightly more hazy blue beam, the remake seems to have made it more solid. The sounds of each are also slightly different. Similar with the plasma gun. In the remake, it seems to have been given a somewhat more realistic gunshot sound, while the original has a bit more of that science fiction blast to it.
One thing that many may notice is the way Isaac Clarke's arm moves when firing. Again, while the Dead Space remake is still being developed, it looks as though the studio has made it so his arm is pushed back with a lot more force when firing, in an almost exaggerated fashion.
