Originally hoped to be out later this year, EA’s Motive Studio has said the Dead Space remake is aiming for early 2023.
EA never officially shared a release date for its upcoming Dead Space remake, but unofficial sources claimed that the plan was to have it out around autumn time this year.
If that was the case, then the remake has been hit with an internal delay. In a recent 50-minute livestream, developer Motive Studio, when asked about a release date, says they’re aiming for early 2023.
They also mention that the game is still in the pre-alpha stage, and they’ll be testing their first full walkthrough of it next week, adding that they’re confident they’ll be in a ‘solid position’ to meet the release date they have in mind.
Most of the livestream is spent discussing the remake’s audio design and what’s been changed and updated since the original Dead Space, with particular focus on the sound effects of the weapons and audio occlusion (echoes, basically).
One new feature demonstrated is what Motive calls the A.L.I.V.E. System. In the original game, protagonist Isaac Clarke’s rate of breathing would change depending on his situation, like when he’s running or in combat.
For the remake, Motive is expanding on this to make things more immersive. So, the A.L.I.V.E. system monitors not just Isaac’s health but also his heart rate, which can be affected by jump scares to determine how much he’s breathing.
Isaac’s dialogue delivery will change depending on his state as well, like if he’s fatigued or injured. As a reminder, Isaac never spoke in the original Dead Space, but did get a voice actor for the sequels. Said voice actor, Gunner Wright, will be reprising the role for the remake.
