Indie publisher Versus Evil is losing its founder Steve Escalante.
In a post on LinkedIn, the exec revealed that he was leaving the company and that he wasn't sure what he was going to be doing after his departure. Versus Evil was founded back in 2013 and acquired by TinyBuild in 2021.
That latter company is experiencing some financial issues and is making layoffs at the moment.
"I started out this journey to create a publisher for independent developers, to treat them well, give fair terms and do our best to give them publishing support without being an overruling, all knowing partner (hence the company name)," Escalante wrote.
"A publisher that is in the trenches with passion and commitment. It certainly has had its ups and downs. The video games business is certainly not for the faint of heart. Those are stories for a later time, but for now I simply wish to say thank you for these amazing years, experiences, games, pitches, trust, and the travels we have done together."
He continued: "My next adventure is yet to be decided. That announcement will come when ready. I wish everyone health, happiness, and the very difficult to achieve, extra life bonus."
Before founding Versus Evil, Escalante was marketing director at ZeniMax Online Studios.
