One of the biggest draws about Starfield is the number of planets you can explore. It’s not so much an open-world game as it is more of an open-galaxy title. With that, you might understandably want these giant balls of rock to look their best. That’s where the modding community comes into its own.
You see, while Starfield‘s planets do look pretty good, especially from low orbit, they evidently could stand to look prettier. That’s why Nexus Mods user Revan (as spotted by DSO Gaming) has brought us their texture pack for a visual boost to some of the game’s planets.
Upscaling the vanilla look to 8K, this mod aims to give a more “realistic” look to these potential homesteads. At the moment, textures focus on the Sol System, which includes Earth, Earth’s moon, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter. Revan is also upscaling the other “biomemasks” planets, with 90 of 555 done so far. The mod will be updated with more textures as they go along.
Already, Starfield modders have been keeping themselves busy, and there are plenty being released all the time. In a more official capacity, Todd Howard recently confirmed the game would be getting Creation Kit mod support in 2024. This means that custom content for the Xbox Series X|S version of the game will be on the horizon.
Going down as the biggest launch in Bethesda’s history, Starfield is a product several years in the making. From Howard’s initial pitch back in 2013 to the release of the finished product just recently, it seems as though the hype has been worth it for the most part.
