Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie has added another talented cast member to the ensemble. SNL favorite Kate McKinnon is the most recent actor to join Warner Bros.' feature film about the iconic doll.
A live-action Barbie feature film has been in some stage of development long before Warner Bros. took on the project. At one point, comedian Amy Schumer was set to play Barbie and Anne Hathaway was posed to star as the iconic character after Schumer dropped out.

Fast-forward a few years later, and Mattel Films decided to revive the Barbie project, with Warner Bros. distributing and Robbie attached to star and produce through her LuckyChap Entertainment production company. Although Deadline reports McKinnon is now set to join the film, details on her role remain unknown at this time. News of McKinnon's casting comes shortly after it was announced that America Ferrera and Simu Liu had joined the Barbie cast, with the latter having just come off of his success with Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
McKinnon, Ferrera, and Liu are also joined by Ryan Gosling, who takes on the role of Barbie's boyfriend Ken. Reportedly, Gosling had to pass on the role until a schedule change allowed him to sign onto the film. Details on the plot of the Barbie film are not available at this time, but the script was penned by Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach.
