The X-Men's Beast has a forgotten superpower — one that may explain why he's trusted by the mutants no matter what. It's long been clear Beast is the most dangerous member of the X-Men; he has an unshakeable belief in his own genius, and he excels at justifying his actions to himself. He once caused so much damage to the entire timestream he prompted the Watcher, the cosmic being who's supposed to observe all things but never interfere, to appear before him and declare himself disgusted at what he had seen. Even that assessment — by a near-omniscient being no less — didn't shake Beast's arrogant self-confidence for long.
Beast now stands in a position of real power in the mutant nation of Krakoa. He's in charge of X-Force, the mutant CIA, and he's risking the future of mutantkind in his paranoia. His mistakes almost caused an international incident at the first Hellfire Gala, and his decision to plant surreptitious spy systems around the world's power-players risks leading to conflict with the likes of the Avengers. And yet, for all that's the case, precious few mutants seem to be questioning Beast's judgment — with Emma Frost a notable exception. Why is he trusted so implicitly?

An answer may well lie in a forgotten mutant power, referenced in Mephisto Vs. #2 back in 1987.
