A recent wave of Steam Deck thefts is leading customers to ask Valve to start shipping them in more discreet packaging. Valve's portable answer to the Nintendo Switch finally launched late last month after being delayed due to supply issues, and has gained a warm reception from gamers and developers alike. Aside from the inherent appeal of being able to play over 1,000 Steam titles like Elden Ring and Doom Eternal on the go, the Steam Deck has also been praised for its ergonomic design and Valve's quick response to a potentially game-breaking joystick drifting issue, but it has been noted that the Steam Deck's battery life doesn’t last as long as the Nintendo Switch’s offerings.
All the same, the Steam Deck was made available to pre-order on February 25, and it wouldn't be long before the first wave of systems was showing up on the doorsteps of the excited gamers who ordered them. In an added display of goodwill toward customers, Valve president Gabe Newell has even started delivering Steam Decks himself, even for Steam users who didn’t order one. Not everyone who recently bought a Steam Deck has been greeted with this kind of sight, though many of the problems surrounding the system disappearing or not arriving on time are the result of honest delivery mistakes rather than anything malicious.
