The upcoming film adaptation of Red, White, and Royal Blue has found its U.S. president in actress Uma Thurman. The romance movie, which is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston, will follow Alex Claremont-Diaz, the First Son of the United States, as he falls head over heels in love with his former rival, England's Prince Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor. The film will begin production in the UK this month with director Matthew Lopez at the helm. The film is being produced by Amazon Studios and Berlanti Productions, the company co-founded by Greg Berlanti, who directed the 2018 LGBTQ+ teen rom-com Love, Simon.
The film adaptation, which is coming to Prime Video at a currently unspecified date, recently announced a huge slate of cast members, including its two romantic leads. Alex will be portrayed by The Kissing Booth 2 and 3's Taylor Zakhar Perez opposite Cinderella 2021 star Nicholas Galitizine as Prince Henry. The rest of the cast is being filled out by Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Ellie Bamber, Aneesh Sheth, Polo Morin, Ahmed Elhaj, Akshay Khanna, and Stephen Fry, who recently appeared in another British LGBTQ+ production: although he did not appear onscreen, he was the voice of the headmaster in Netflix's graphic novel adaptation Heartstopper.

Per Deadline, Red, White, and Royal Blue has just cast its president. Uma Thurman has stepped into the role of Ellen Claremont, Alex's mother and one of his closest confidants. She is largely responsible for Alex and Henry being thrown together in the first place, because she is running for re-election and doesn't want their rivalry to distract from her campaign.
