Ubisoft is developing a new third-person shooter IP, according to a new report.
According to Exputer, the project, which is currently known as “Pathfinder” is currently in development at the publisher.
Exputer claims to have seen images and videos of the game, which they say shares a similar graphical style to that of Hyper Scape, Ubisoft’s soon-to-close battle royale.
“Pathfinder appears to be a slightly different take on a Battle Royale, where a team of four players will drop into the map and find their path towards the center to fight the main AI boss,” the publication claims.
The game will also reportedly require players to navigate through different stages of a map, breaking through a series of walls that change between games. This, presumably, is the “pathfinder” aspect of the game.
The game will seemingly feature a “Hero” class system which will see players select characters with different abilities, although Exputer claims that these abilities are yet to be finalised as the game is still early in the development process.
A “Destiny Tower”-like central hub will also be part of the game, this will serve as the social space for players between matches, it’s claimed.
Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced that it was closing down its battle royale game Hyper Scape, less than 2 years after it launched.
Developed by Ubisoft Montréal, Hyper Scape is a free-to-play, 100-player battle royale FPS set in a futuristic urban environment called Neo-Arcadia.
The game launched in open beta form in July 2020. However, just a year after its release Ubisoft had stopped releasing major updates for the game.
“We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th,” Ubisoft said.
