Game cancellations are a common occurrence in the industry. As time has gone on, plenty of titles have been canned as companies turn towards what will work rather than take unnecessary risks. Ubisoft has had its history of canning projects, and today has revealed to fans of the gaming titan that four of the studio's upcoming projects have been shelved.
Today marks the company's financial earnings call and with it has come a ton of news for fans of the massive gaming titan to digest. Alongside the announcement that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be delayed until 2023-2024, the Splinter Cell VR title, Ghost Recon Frontline and two unannounced titles have seen their development cease.

The first two canceled projects have been in the works for quite some time. The Splinter Cell VR title received an official announcement by Ubisoft back in 2020 alongside an Assassin's Creed VR title that were set to launch on Oculus headsets. Ghost Recon Frontline saw a massive wave of fan backlash after its announcement back in 2021 as it was revealed to be a free-to-play battle royale title marking a complete shift from the standard tactical FPS gameplay the series was known for. The two unannounced titles that were canned are a complete mystery.
The cancellations come from Ubisoft noticing the change in the financial market as the earnings call reflects that sentiment. Rainbow Six Siege performed well for the company with the launch of its seventh year of content, and Assassin's Creed saw a massive surge due to the next generation updates for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey as well as the content Assassin's Creed Valhalla received.
