With Destiny 2's next expansion, Witch Queen, on the approach, Bungie plans on releasing a massive sandbox update to the game. However, Bungie is making a couple of exotic weapons an exception to the upcoming patch.
On Thursday, Bungie outlined a number of changes to Destiny 2's weapons in a few weeks such as how exotic weapons are receiving a 40 percent damage buff to minor enemies. While exotic weapons are getting tuned, Bungie later noted that the Last Word and Vex Mythoclast will not receive all the buffs.

Bungie community manager DMG took to Twitter to give a few more notes on Destiny 2's upcoming patch. He states that the buff to the Hip-Fire Grip perk will not apply to the Last Word hand cannon. However, the Last Word will still receive the damage buff that all other exotic primaries are getting later this February. DMG also stated that the Vex Mythoclast will not see the 40 percent damage increase to minor enemies like all the other exotic weapons. The studio's reason is that the Vex Mythoclast already received a buff at the beginning of season 15, meaning that the developers do not need to make the gun even more powerful than it already is.
Hip-Fire Grip is a weapon perk that tightens a gun's hip-fire spread, making firing from the hip easier and more reliable. Bungie is buffing Hip-Fire Grip to grant more range, and the Last Word has Hip-Fire Grip as one of its perks. Given that the Last Word is primarily a weapon for the PVP Crucible mode, such a range buff can make the gun too powerful. Thus, Bungie is looking to keep this close-quarter-combat powerhouse in close-ranges and nothing more.
