Donald Trump has finally posted on Truth Social, the platform that primarily exists because he was permanently banned from Twitter, more than two months after its February debut.
The former president's first "truth"—which is Truth Social's equivalent to a tweet or status update—was posted on April 28. It reads: "I'M BACK! #COVFEFE" and features a picture of Trump using his phone in front of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
It's not clear what prompted Trump's return to social media. Perhaps it's the prospect of regaining access to his Twitter account following The Wall Street Journal report indicating that Elon Musk, who is currently poised to buy Twitter for $44 billion, opposed his ban.
Trump has denied that might be the case, telling Fox News that "I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH." He added: "I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH."
Maybe it's Truth Social's burgeoning popularity. The platform still isn't available on Android devices, but it was the most popular free app on the App Store on April 29, presumably in part because of Trump's post. The app has since fallen to the No. 4 slot at time of writing.
Either way, it seems Trump is finally using the social media platform that was built for him, and from which he never has to worry about being banned. (Which didn't turn out to be the case for Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.)
