Fear is a primal emotion and while some don't like feeling it, it can create an intense rush. Because of this, many people will seek out horrifying things like movies or games such as Tormented Souls. On top of generally being frightening, horror games have a reputation for being quite difficult, and this game is no different.

You're placed into the role of a young girl who's been summoned to a seemingly derelict hospital by mysterious note and photo. Once you arrive, it becomes clear that you're trapped in a dark, maze-like building with no direct escape so you best familiarize yourself with the basics.
Even when you're not in a horror environment, you never want to be lost in the dark. The area of Winterlake Mansion is filled with shadow and low-lit spaces that aren't helped by the fact that the game is perpetually set at night. Aside from reducing your visibility, the dark will actively harm you the longer you stand in it.
As a result, you should always make sure you always have a light source on hand and be warned that even the smallest area of darkness can kill you. You'll know you're at risk when static starts to fade over the screen.
Much like how Resident Evil used typewriters, Tormented Souls has Audio Recorders scattered around the mansion. Unfortunately, they aren't infinite and require tapes to work. This means that for a majority of the time, you won't have a consistent way to save your progress and there's no auto-save.
That means that whenever you are lucky enough to find an Audio Tape, you should accomplish as much as you can in-between saves. You should also take note of recorder locations as they can act as safe zones.
