Loki actor Tom Hiddleston is set to star in Apple TV+'s adaptation of David Grann's book, The White Darkness. The story of The White Darkness is inspired by the real-life account of British explorer Henry Worsley, a father, devoted husband, and former soldier but also a man passionately obsessed with adventure, as demonstrated in his epic journey crossing Antarctica on foot.
As announced by Apple TV+, Hiddleston has been cast as Henry Worsley in The White Darkness, with Pachinko writer Soo Hugh and Mark Heyman (Black Swan) hopping on board as showrunners. Hiddleston, Hugh, and Heyman will all executive produce, as will Theresa Kang-Lowe and Caroline Garity. According to Apple, the limited series will delve into the themes of love, family, courage, and the extremes of human capacity.

Hiddleston's casting in The White Darkness marks his second project with Apple TV+ after the period drama series The Essex Serpent, which is also based on a book and is slated to premiere in May. Though still best known for his fan-favorite turn as Thor's notorious brother Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hiddleston has appeared more prominently in television roles in recent years, with his last feature film appearance coming in the 2019 MCU blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame. It's unclear when production on Hiddleston's new show will begin, as his busy schedule also includes Loki season 2. The talented actor has proved his versatility time and again with titles like the spy thriller series The Night Manager and the dystopian film High-Rise. Audiences can once again expect a unique performance from Hiddleston when The White Darkness eventually drops on Apple TV+.
