The upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will feature 6-player local and online co-op, it’s been confirmed.
A new trailer for the game was shown during Summer Game Fest on Thursday, which confirmed the 6-player mode and also revealed Casey Jones as a playable character.
This brings the total playable roster to seven characters – Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, Master Splinter, April O’Neil and Casey Jones.
The trailer also confirmed the game’s release date, which is June 16. The game will release on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on this date.
Shredder’s Revenge is developed by Tribute Games, which was co-founded by a trio of developers who had worked on Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game.
Like that title, Shredder’s Revenge is a retro style beat ’em up, and serves as a spiritual successor to the ’90s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat ’em ups, in particular Turtles in Time – though the game has no connection with Konami, which developed and published those titles.
Konami will, however, be releasing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection later this year on all formats.
The retro compilation consists of 13 separate games, covering releases on arcade, NES, SNES, Mega Drive / Genesis and Game Boy.
The compilation is being developed in collaboration with retro experts Digital Eclipse, and will include a number of new quality-of-life features aimed at modern players.
These include the ability to create save states, the option to rewind the game at any point and button mapping.
As is the norm for other Digital Eclipse titles, the collection will also include an extensive Museum mode which provides previously unseen development art, sketches and game design material.
