Up to six people can play TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge together, even in local co-op, as Casey Jones is confirmed as a new playable character.
Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will certainly be eating well this month. During Summer Game Fest, the retro inspired co-op beat ‘em-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge was confirmed to be launching next week, on June 16.
The new trailer didn’t just show off a release date, either. It now boasts a cast of seven playable characters, with publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games making it possible for nearly the whole squad to work together with six player co-op.
It looks like pure chaos, with the screen jam-packed with enemies, but it has the same mad-cap appeal of smashing all your toys together at once. Plus, it’s available both locally and online.
Since you can have upwards of six characters mowing down Shredder’s goons, Dotemu and Tribute Games have explained that enemy groups will scale depending on how many players there are. That’s why the gameplay with six players looks so crowded sometimes.
If you’re wondering who the seventh playable character is, the new trailer also confirmed Casey Jones for the game. A sports themed vigilante and ally of the turtles, he fights with baseball bats, hockey sticks, and the like.
His attire even briefly changes during certain attacks. A golf club attack, for example, has him put on a flat cap as he swings.
As a reminder, the rest of the roster consists of the four turtles themselves, their master Splinter, and reporter April O’Neil. It’s a shame there’s no seven player option so the whole cast can fight together, but that’d probably be too much for the game to handle. Plus, who has that many controllers to hand?
