TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is a side scroller beat 'em up that gives players a pretty complex set of moves they can employ while beating up the foot clan. Players can dodge in a variety of ways, throw enemies around, perform special unique attacks and even power up to tackle the most difficult enemies. The game is split into stages, or episodes, in which they start with a set number of lives, usually two, and if they lose them all, they must restart the stage all over again.

As players progress through TMNT: Shredder's Revenge and explore the levels, they will come across several types of collectibles required to 100% the game. Additionally, each stage provides players with a set of challenges that usually involve beating up enemies in a certain way or avoiding getting hit at all.
