The highly controversial female member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Venus, is hinted to be making a return after a decades-long absence. In a cover for the Turtles' Free Comic Book Day special, a figure resembling the rarely seen fifth member, Venus De Milo, seemingly encounters her former teammates. The artwork raises questions of whether Venus is truly making a comeback and if so, how much of her controversial past is she bringing?
Originally created for the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation television show, Venus was brought in to add a female presence to the all-male Turtle crew. Like her teammates, Venus was a similarly mutated turtle who got separated from the others, and was later trained to fight. After reuniting with the Ninja Turtles, she gave herself her own Renaissance-themed name with Venus De Milo, named after artist Alexandros of Antioch's armless wonder. While Venus' inclusion on the show may have come from a well-meaning place, creative decisions made on The Next Mutation prevented a female Turtle from joining the crew until the addition of Jennika in 2019.

On the far side opposite of the Turtles, a figure similar to Venus lurks in the shadows. While the braided ponytail makes her a dead ringer for the fifth turtle, the figure has several notable changes to her design such as arm tattoos and stitching all over her body.
