Tile, maker of Bluetooth tracking tech, this week launched its first pet accessory.
Available in black or white, the $40 Tile for Cats(Opens in a new window) combines a Tile Sticker with a silicone collar attachment to help keep tabs on sneaky felines. Developed specifically for indoor mousers prone to hiding in obscure places, the accessory features a 250-foot Bluetooth range that allows cats freedom of movement while giving owners peace of mind.
"Pets play an important role in our lives and we strive to meet the needs of the entire family, or chosen family," Chris Hulls, CEO of Tile parent company Life360, said in a statement(Opens in a new window).
Tile for Cats is compatible with Android and iOS, and works with (or without) a $2.99-per-month or annual $29.99 Tile Premium subscription. Life360 members, meanwhile, may link the cat kit to their account so family and friends can also track the fur child's location.
"Our designers saw that users were seeking ways to monitor their cat's whereabouts and creating makeshift attachments, so it was a no-brainer to develop a much-needed cat accessory for our ecosystem that connects and protects everyone and everything that matters most," Hulls says.
Tile claims its non-removable battery should last up to three years, at which point users can simply replace the voice-assisted Sticker with a new one. The silicone collar accessory—which should sit close to the cat's neck rather than dangling like a tag—fits most collars, and can stretch up to 1.7 times without breaking.
While there is no shortage of GPS-based pet trackers, most are meant for outdoor animals, not kitties who prefer a life of solitude under the bed.
