Elden Ring's The Lands Between is filled with various NPCs — some helpful, others less so — but of all of the various character's fates, none is more tragic than Blaidd's, Ranni the witch's loyal shadow. FromSoftware's games often feature a myriad of NPCs for the player to interact with over the course of their adventures, with some of them aiding the player or serving as merchants, whilst others can be summoned to help the player take on difficult areas or bosses. There are even a few less savory characters who are out to trick the player or put them in a tight spot, with one familiar face from Dark Souls returning in Elden Ring.

A common theme with Elden Ring's NPCs seems to be that most, if not all of them, are driven by self-interest. NPCs such as Sorceress Sellen may aid the player, but they do so largely on the path to some ulterior motive or gain. Elden Ring also takes great pride in punishing said NPCs for their follies, with many of their questlines resulting in their death or worse. Even characters that the player may have journeyed with and grown attached to could quickly turn to reveal their true colors to the Tarnished, such as the player's very own unofficial finger maiden Melina's plan to burn Elden Ring's Erdtree.

Blaidd is one such character that many players will end up encountering fairly early on, as he is first encountered in the starting area of Limgrave, in the Mistwood Ruins. After some legwork, players can meet the huge swordsman themselves and learn a little more about him, however, he is more integral to the events surrounding the witch and Princess Ranni and her long questline.
