The Xbox TV app is now available on select Amazon Fire sticks.
Microsoft announced last month that Game Pass Ultimate members in over 25 countries would soon be able to download an Xbox app on Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max devices.
Support is rolling out today, enabling Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream Xbox games to their Fire TV devices without buying a console.
To do so, players will have to install and launch the Xbox app from their Fire TV device, sign in with their Microsoft account, sign up for Game Pass Ultimate if they haven’t already and connect their controller to play.
Supported Bluetooth-enabled wireless controllers include the Xbox wireless controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, and even PlayStation’s DualSense and DualShock 4 pads.
“Over the past several years, we have been on a journey to deliver cloud gaming to more devices and to more people around the globe,” corporate vice president of Xbox experiences and platforms engineering Ashley McKissick said last month.
“We are excited to add Fire TV to our growing family of cloud gaming devices and eager to welcome new players into this experience.”
A recently unearthed patent seemingly offered the first proper look at Microsoft’s shelved Xbox streaming device.
First announced in 2021 and codenamed ‘Keystone’, the device was being designed to let players stream Xbox games to TVs or monitors without the need for a console.
However, Xbox deprioritised work on it after failing to produce it cheaply enough to be able to sell it at the desired price, which was in the $99-$129 range.
