Microsoft has officially announced the long-reported white version of the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, but has also revealed that it’ll be cheaper than the black edition.
The controller, which is being sold under the full name ‘Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core’, is similar to the black Elite Series 2 controller but will come with fewer accessories.
As a result, the controller, which will be available on September 21, will cost $129.99 instead of the $179.99 being charged for the black version.
Players will be able to buy a separate ‘Complete Component Pack’ for $59.99 if they want the other accessories, including the carrying case and charging dock.
The white Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core edition will come with the controller, a USB-C cable and the thumbstick adjustment tool.
It will not come with the following accessories included with the black Elite Series 2:
If players want these, they’ll have to buy the separate $59.99 Complete Component Pack.
Reports of a white Elite Series 2 controller have been shared for a number of months now. A photo which appeared to show boxed white Elite Series 2 controllers was shared online in March, followed by a video showing off the controller in July.
Last month Amazon Mexico also briefly listed the controller with a September 21 release date, which it now turns out was accurate.
Microsoft has also confirmed that Elite Series 2 controllers will be added to the Xbox Design Lab site “this holiday”, meaning players will be able to customise their own Elite controller for the first time.
