The System Shock remake’s PC release date has been announced
The release date for the remake of the classic PC game System Shock has been announced.
The game, which is being developed by Nightdive Studios, will be released on PC on March 30.
Console versions of the game are also planned, but no release date has been given.
“Console editions of System Shock will release on PS4, PS5 and Xbox One and Series S/X in due course,” the studio has stated. “More details on this when we have them.”
System Shock was originally developed by Looking Glass Studios in 1994. Directed by Doug Church and produced by Warren Spector, it was a highly influential title that went on to inspire games like Bioshock and Prey, both considered spiritual successors.
The game’s producer Warren Spector would go on to direct Deus Ex and produce Thief: Deadly Shadows.
“The System Shock remake combines the cult gameplay of the iconic original game with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface and all-new sounds and music,” according to a press release.
Last year Nightdive Studios clarified the status of the long-missing-in-action System Shock 3, claiming that it’s now up to Tencent if the sequel gets made.
Speaking to VGC at Gamescom, Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick claimed that the rights to the third game, which it had originally granted to Austin-based Otherside Entertainment, had subsequently been sold on to the Chinese conglomerate.
“So Tencent currently has the rights to the third game, and we have the rights to do the remake of the first game and potentially a remake of the second game,” Kick explained. “That’s pretty much where it stands right now.”
