Publisher Tripwire Presents and developer The Game Kitchen, known for its Blasphemous series, have announced The Stone of Madness. Coming to PS5 in early 2025, it's a real-time stealth strategy title set in 18th century Spain, about a group of asylum inmates attempting to escape.
As you can see from the debut trailer, it has quite a distinct art style; inspired by the work of artist Francisco de Goya, cutscenes and the isometric gameplay all has a lovely hand-drawn look. Playing as five different characters, your aim is to help them all sneak around the institution, building towards a grand escape.
You'll need to preserve each character's sanity as you search the monastery for clues and useful items. Avoiding the jailers is key to the strategy, though each member of the party has unique skills you can use to distract or eliminate them instead.
The game plays out over a day and night cycle, in which you must work out the steps of your escape and execute on them. There will be two escape plans you can choose from, with each campaign offering unique narrative threads and objectives.
It all looks and sounds pretty interesting, and it's certainly a departure from the team's side-scrolling action titles. What do you make of The Stone of Madness? Watch out for vision cones in the comments section below.
