Frogwares has announced that its long running dispute with publisher Nacon over the rights of The Sinking City has come to an end, in Frogwares’ favour. Back in 2021, Frogwares accused Nacon of illegally uploading The Sinking City to Steam, using a cracked version of the game. This followed on from accusations that Nacon had not paid Frogwares on time, and was breaching a publishing agreement. Nacon rebutted, saying that Frogwares had no legal right to withhold the publisher from putting the game on Steam.
Today, Frogwares announced that it has gained full publishing rights for The Sinking City, with whole situation now over. In a statement, Frogwares said, “Frogwares is now the sole publisher of The Sinking City on all platforms, including PC, so you can expect the latest version of the game to be available on Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and Gamesplanet in a few weeks. The latest version will come with all the previous bug fixes and optimisations, as well as a few things to keep in mind for the existing owners of the game on Steam and Epic Games Store.
We want to thank you all for your support and patience, and we look forward to sharing more news about the future of The Sinking City very soon.”
In our The Sinking City review, Steve wrote, “The Sinking City promises a nightmarish journey through a Lovecraftian townscape filled with monsters and threatening cults, but too often falls into a loop of forced combat and resource hunting. The investigative parts are excellent, and this is probably the best Lovecrat adaptation since Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth, but it still never really lives up to its potential. Close, but no Shoggoth.”
