The Simpsons star Yeardley Smith recently explained why the show's characters never aging is a genius choice. Originally conceived as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, the popular animated television series made its debut in 1989 on the Fox Network. It has since produced over 700 episodes, making it the longest-running sitcom and scripted series in American television history. The Simpsons centers on the chaotic yet lovable Simpson family which consists of Homer (Dan Castellaneta), Marge (Julie Kavner), Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Lisa (Smith), and Maggie.
For nearly 33 years, The Simpsons have delighted fans on network television. However, the characters have yet to age along with the many decades they have appeared onscreen. Bart and Lisa have been stuck in Springfield Elementary School and Maggie has made no progress in maturing into a toddler. Meanwhile, Homer has shown no signs of nearing retirement from the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.

According to the actor, the fact that the show is animated allowed the writers to create a comforting comedy that viewers can tune into as current events become challenging.
