The Office hairstylist, Kim Ferry, explains Michael Scott's changed hairstyle look after season 1. Based on the Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant-created British television series of the same name, the American version of The Office debuted in 2005 to critical acclaim and subsequently ran for nine successful seasons. The show centers on the relatively uneventful everyday lives of the employees of the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the Dunder Mifflin paper company with Scott (Steve Carell) as its regional manager.
The six-episode season 1 lent itself more to the original series with the pilot episode of the American version being a near direct adaptation of the British series opener. Season 1 Scott was also more aligned with Gervais' character equivalent, David Brent, the general manager of the Slough branch of Wernham Hogg paper merchants. To match his character, Scott's hair was slicked back to elicit a more serious look from the paper company boss. However, season 2 found Scott's hairstyle changed to something less dramatic and more in tone with his affable character.
