Disney+ announces that development is underway on The Full Monty sequel show with the original cast set to return for the limited series. Written by 127 Hours' Simon Beaufoy and directed by Peter Cattaneo, the 1997 film revolved around six former steel workers in Sheffield, England who are struggling financially since the mills shut down. In a last ditch effort, the group decide to form a male striptease act, though will go the extra mile in comparison to Cippendale dancers and strip all the way, otherwise known as the full monty.
Once Upon a Time's Robert Carlyle led the cast of The Full Monty alongside Mark Addy, William Snape, Steve Huison, Tom Wilkinson, Paul Barber and Hugo Speer. The film received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for its deeper exploration of a variety of themes, including fatherhood, depression, body image and suicide, and garnered four Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score, going on to win the latter. While The Full Monty has gone on to be adapted into a Broadway musical and stage play in the 25 years since its release, it's now about to find new life.
