A spin-off of the popular spy drama Killing Eve that will focus on the character of spymaster Carolyn Martens is reportedly in the works. Originally airing in 2018, Killing Eve is based on the Villanelle books by Luke Jennings and follows the story of Eve Polastri, an MI6 officer who pursues the psychotic assassin Villanelle. Part of Polastri's support team is ruthless spymaster Carolyn Martens, portrayed by Fiona Shaw, head of the intelligence agency's Russia desk, who is willing to pull any strings needed in order to achieve her goals. Killing Eve season 4, its final season, premiered in February of this year and will air its last episode on April 10.
Killing Eve fans won't have to say goodbye to the show's world of espionage forever, however, as a new spin-off focusing on the background of Martens has just been announced. According to Deadline, the new show is in the early stages of development and hasn't been greenlit yet. It will focus on Martens' early days in the British Secret Service, telling the tale of how she became the headstrong puppet master that defines her character in the show.

Martens is a fan favorite, and one of the many strong female characters that make Killing Eve such a hit with audiences. It's unsurprising that the next foray into this world would focus on her, as the character is a complete scene-stealer. News of spin-offs was also to be expected, as earlier this week Killing Eve season 4 head Laura Neal hinted that there might be further expansion after the series finale on Sunday.
