Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting a free rogue-lite game mode where Eivor (as Odin) returns to Niflheim, the Viking land of the dead. And they’ll do it again and again and again, each time getting stronger as they combat the daughter of Loki and her many monsters.
Today marks the start of Ubisoft's 15-year celebration of all things Assassin's Creed, and the opening presentation promised more than a few surprises in store for fans. To start, Ubisoft is bringing a second year of post-launch content to Assassin's Creed Valhalla for the first time, including returning festivals, a Mastery Challenge Pack 2, an armory update, and new tombs coming this fall that will finally solve the mystery surrounding the Tomb of the Fallen.

But the biggest surprise for Valhalla is coming later this summer. The Forgotten Saga will be a free "rogue-lite inspired" game mode that sends Eivor back into the world of Viking mythology to fight against the daughter of Loki.
The Forgotten Saga seems to build on the mythology set in Valhalla's most recent expansion, Dawn of Ragnarok, placing Eivor back in the role as The All Father Odin. Cast out from the Viking underworld, the rogue-lite mechanics sees Odin receive certain upgrades after each run, with the trailer showcasing upgrades available for Mjolnir, the Vindbogi bow, and the Vaegn-Geirr spear. Or you can just take gold, which will presumably be useful for upgrading other aspects of Odin's mythical armory.
The Forgotten Saga comes later this summer, and Ubisoft promised Valhalla will receive one more free content drop for Valhalla later this winter. In addition to the free content updates, Discovery Tour: Viking Age is now a standalone
