Mining for resources is one of the main ways to get your hands on resources in The Cycle: Frontier. But, before you roll your eyes at the idea of mining resources from clumped rocks in yet another game, there's an interesting thing worth knowing about how mining works.
Instead of clattering a pickaxe against the hitbox of some rendered rubble for a few minutes until it goes pop, here nodes don't need to be completely destroyed. Mining spots are composed of individual chunks that you need to bash away to reveal what's hidden inside. Which can sometimes be nothing or Nickel, but if you're lucky you can get some rare elements now and then. Also, it means you only have to give each mining site a few quick smacks to see if there's anything valuable inside before moving on, which can be quite the timesaver. A good tip is to aim for the sparkling parts of the node as underneath these is usually where the ores are.
Your bread and butter gameplay loop of the majority of your drops is going to involve scavenging. Get used to rifling through boxes and abandoned lockers filled with junk, or the gizzards of creatures for crucial crafting
