Showrunners Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan tease a darker Jackie storyline in The Conners season 5. A spinoff of the popular comedy series Roseanne, ABC's The Conners follows the trials and tribulations of the Conners family following the sudden death of the family matriarch. The show, which just aired its season 4 finale, continues to be a major hit for the network, with a fifth season recently having been given the green light, although no air date has been announced just yet.

The standout episode also went beyond just marriages and breakups and featured Dan Conner (John Goodman), the recently-married family patriarch, struggling with empty-nest syndrome.
