One of the showrunners of The Conners has dropped hints as to Mark's major storyline in the coming season 5. The series has been on the air for several years, after star Roseanne Barr was dropped from the Roseanne reboot following a series of racist Twitter comments. After this, The Conners was retooled to center around the rest of the family, including John Goodman as Dan Conner and Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris-Goldufski. The Conners season 4 finale aired recently on May 18, 2022, but there are already more episodes on the horizon. With days to spare, ABC confirmed The Conners season 5 on May 12.
One of the major characters in The Conners is Mark, played by Ames McNamara. He is the son of Darlene Conner (Sara Gilbert) and her ex-husband David Healy (Johnny Galecki, who left the series after season 2). In season 4, Mark's storyline followed him into freshman year at a magnet high school as he began taking lessons in the contrabassoon. This ties in with the fact that the family can't afford to send him to college, as his mom suggested he take up the obscure instrument, since colleges are more willing to award scholarships to band members that have less mainstream skills. As he heads into his next year of high school after Darlene remarried in The Conners season 4 finale, Mark's storyline is likely going to get even more complicated.
