It's no secret that Xbox has big plans in place for all the studios under its belt, especially after two of the industry's biggest acquisitions in history. One of those studios, The Coalition, has been hard at work on theGears of War series since Epic Games put the series down to focus on other projects. Since Gears of War 4, The Coalition has only ever worked on games in the Gears franchise, but that could be changing if comments from Xbox Marketing General Manager Aaron Greenberg are anything to go by.
In a post that has since been deleted on both Twitter and Reddit, it seems Greenberg may have let a little too much out of the bag. In addition to recently assisting Epic Games on the Unreal Engine 5 demo The Matrix Awakens, it appears that The Coalition is working on «several unannounced projects» of which Greenberg didn't discuss specifics. While this apparently seemed okay for Greenberg to mention in the moment, it looks as if the Xbox Marketing GM spoke a little too soon.
Rumor: Gears of War 6 May be 3-4 Years Away From Release
As for what exactly these projects are, some educated guesses could of course be made. The development of Gears of War 6 or whatever the next entry in the Gears franchise ends up being is the most obvious one considering the success of Gears 5, especially thanks to Xbox Game Pass. There could also be some Gears-centric spin-off in the works as well as Gears Tactics as that was one such game that released to moderate praise. Rumors of an apparent "Marcus Fenix Collection" have also recently been doing the rounds as that would bundle remastered Gears of War content, likely either including the original trilogy or even Gears of War 1-4.
