The first chapter, The Wandering Mummy, takes us back to 1922 when a private auction for people seeking to prolong their lives results in a far grislier end.

This chapter will introduce you to the basic mechanics of the game, during the Incident Phase you watch scenes play out and gather clues, which you can then use to create hypotheses in the Reasoning Phase. You don't have to click on each clue as the scenes play out, as these are all automatically added in the Reasoning Phase regardless. Once you've sorted your hypotheses in the Solution Phase, you can continue with the story to unmask the killer.

There are various occasions where you will be prompted to answer a question during the Incident Phase and after identifying the killer. These answers do not really matter or change the storyline, so we have not listed them in this guide.
You would have already had a short tutorial on the Reasoning Phase earlier in the chapter, but essentially you need to create hypotheses by matching clues to the red mystery tiles. You do not need to necessarily complete every mystery tile, as once you have created enough hypotheses, the purple 'Reasoning' tile will appear and you can continue the game.
Your hypotheses are exactly that — proposed explanations — and so they are not necessarily the true events. Many of your hypotheses will conflict with one another and it's up to you to decide the most likely series
