The Boondocks reboot will apparently not be coming to HBO Max. This all means that we might never again be seeing Huey and Riley Freeman on the small screen.
HBO Max ordered two seasons of 12 episodes each in 2019. There was a 50-minute special planned for the premiere of the series in 2020. This was postponed until 2022 before finally being canceled. The company behind the reboot, Sony, is currently considering its options.

The Boondocks reboot was going to follow the adventures of Huey and Riley after they move into a suburban community in Maryland known as Woodcrest. This however gets taken over by Uncle Ruckus who establishes an oppressive and tyrannical regime which makes life in the place increasingly unbearable. The original series was based on the same premise.
The original series aired on Adult Swim between 2005 and 2014. The show was adapted by Aaron McGruder from a comic book which the writer created in 1996. This ran for a decade until 2006.
The Boondocks reboot was announced by Sony in 2019. HBO Max offered to host the series shortly afterwards before delaying and then canceling the show in 2022. What exactly happened with respect to the series between 2019 and 2022 remains unknown. The actor who played the character Tom DuBois in the original series, Cedric Yarbrough, revealed the news on February 2. The rest of the cast consisted of Regina King, John Witherspoon, Gary Williams, Jill Talley, Gabby Soleil, and Kiarah Pollas.
