God of War reboot, so it’s understandable to assume that a sequel couldn’t possibly meet the same level of intensity. However, Santa Monica Studio rose to the occasion with a follow-up outing,
God of War Ragnarok, continuing the redemption story of Kratos, one of gaming’s most beloved anti-heroes. It expands upon his troubled past while looking even further into the mind of his teenage son, Atreus, as the two are set on conflicted paths in their quest to take down the deceitful Odin. This bigger, bolder sequel maintains the first game’s epic combat while giving players even more to see and do by using Metroidvania-esque game design that requires equal parts strategy, exploration, and patience. If you’ve got the 30 or so hours it takes to see this story through to its conclusion, don’t be surprised if you’re left weeping and cheering by the end.
