In what should come as a surprise to no one, WB's The Batman is projected to be a huge hit at the box office this weekend. The movie is expected to make as much as $245 million this weekend worldwide for its first weekend, according to Deadline.
This include projections of $115 million-$125 million in the US and a further $110 million-$120 million from international markets for a total global first-weekend result of $225 million-$245 million.
The Batman was a massively expensive movie to produce, with a budget of $200 million, and that's before what were surely sizable marketing costs. But expectations and anticipation is very high, so it'll be interesting to see how the film lands commercially.
Comparisons to any previous Batman or comic book film would be incomplete and imperfect, especially considering the impact of COVID on the box office. There is also the matter that The Batman is one of WB's first big releases in 2022, following a year in 2021 when all of its films were released on HBO Max day-and-date with theaters due to the pandemic.
In other news about The Batman at the box office, movie giant AMC announced that it will charge more for The Batman as part of its new variable pricing program.
