Let's not beat a dead horse. Miles Morales' new Evolved suit isn't popular. But the assumption was that, since it's an Adidas brand deal, Adidas designed it. That's not exactly the case, as it turns out.
"We worked with Marvel on Miles' Evolved Suit and shared the design with Adidas and asked them to design a shoe to match," senior art director Jacinda Chew said. "Adidas suggested that we go with the Ultra 4D shoe with its 3D-printed midsole. Not only does it echo Spider-Man's webs, but it also uses 3D printing, which fuses art and technology like Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Everyone brought their expertise to this collaboration and created an incredible shoe that is true to Miles Morales' character."
Gamers were ragging on the Evolved suit before it had even been revealed as a collaboration with Adidas.
Of course, who designed the suit hasn't swayed opinions much. One look at the comment section on the game's subreddit says it all. "No matter who designed it, it's still ugly af," IIXSLAD3XII said.
"So Insomniac brought the ugly a** suit and Adidas added on the ugly a** trainers," DanaxDrake commented. "Truly a great collaboration effort, to be fair! Unfortunately, the product result was s***e".
Once Insomniac sent over Miles' new look, Adidas got to work on making sneakers it could sell in real life to match. And, like the suit, the shoes proved just as unpopular.
“Detailing was key with this shoe," colour and materials designer Charlie Kirihara said. "We have a white base pairing with the in-game suit to stand out and feel a bit different.
