Netflix unveils the Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer, offering the first look at old Leatherface as he continues his reign of bloody terror. The horror film serves as a sequel to the original 1974 slasher classic and centers on young moneymaker Melody as she moves to a remote town in the titular Southern state with her teenage sister and friends in an effort to open a new business in a small town, only to accidentally disrupt Leatherface's home and draw his ire. As he targets the group, local resident Sally Hardesty elects to come out of hiding in an effort to get revenge for the massacre that started it all.
Sarah Yarkin leads the cast of Texas Chainsaw Massacre alongside Elsie Fisher, Mark Burnham as Leatherface, Jacob Latimore, Moe Dunford and Olwen Fouéré as Sally Hardesty, taking over the role from original actress Marilyn Burns following her death in 2014. Development on the film has taken a rocky path over the past few years, with Lionsgate's five-movie plans after 2017's Leatherface being scrapped after they lost the rights to the franchise and Legendary Pictures later acquiring them, only for directors Ryan and Andy Tohill to be fired by the studio within a week of shooting and replaced by David Blue Garcia. With Netflix having picked up Texas Chainsaw Massacre in mid-2021, the streamer is looking to build anticipation for the horror sequel.
