It’s not a PS5 exclusive but Bandai Namco has announced Tekken 8 during Tuesday night’s State of Play, with an impressive real-time trailer.
We knew it was coming, after the tease at Evo 2022, but now Bandai Namco has officially announced Tekken 8 and it’s looking pretty fantastic.
The trailer below is not exactly gameplay footage but is ‘real-time rendered footage, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you would experience the game in versus battle modes.’
In other words, the game should look just as good, it’s just the camera angle will be more practical, so you can actually play it, and there’ll be health bars and whatnot.
Although the appearance at State of Play vaguely implied it’s a PlayStation 5 exclusive it’s not, as the game will also be on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
There’s no release date, or even year, but it’s definitely next gen only, with a lot of effort clearly having gone into the visuals.
The two fighters are, of course, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, who are always a given – so there’s also no hint as to what new characters there might be or what the story is about.
According to director Katsuhiro Harada, the trailer doesn’t feature just a random fight and is actually taken from the work in progress story mode. But Jin and Kazuya not getting on is not exactly much of a spoiler.
It all looks very encouraging at this point, and a major step up from Tekken 7, but the implication is it’ll be a while till the game is ready for release.
