Leah Remini responded to critics of her judging qualifications on So You Think You Can Dance. The dance competition series returned to FOX this summer for season 17 after being off the air since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Leah was a late addition to the judging panel, replacing Matthew Morrison after the audition rounds. The show's producers fired Matthew for breaking competition protocols after allegedly sending «flirty messages» to one of the dancers competing on the show. Though Matthew has publicly denied any wrongdoing, SYTYCD still chose to replace him with Leah, who took over at the start of the studio shows.
Leah sits alongside pop star JoJo Siwa and former SYTYCD contestant Stephen «tWitch» Boss on the judging panel. Cat Deeley also returned for her 16th season hosting the show. The studio shows consist of the Top 12 dancers competing weekly in different dance styles, with contestants facing an elimination at the end of each show. During Wednesday's episode, the audience chose the top three dancers who will move on to the semifinals: ballroom dancer Alexis Warr, contemporary dancer Keaton Kermode and hip-hop dancer Essence Wilmington. Due to Leah's lack of dance training, she has faced criticism from SYTYCD viewers about her qualifications to be a judge this season.
