A superhero without powers like Batman is easy to poke fun of, but when the Dark Knight gains the powers of Superman it proves that he's better without powers than with them. Given that Batman is the World's Greatest Detective who has shown that he's capable of taking down any opponent given enough prep time, one would think that giving him superpowers would only make him a greater hero. But in fact, the powers of Superman prove to be too much for Bruce Wayne to handle, turning him into a megalomaniacal tyrant.
In the 2008 issue Superman/Batman #53 by Michael Green, Mike Johnson, and Rags Morales, an ancient artifact called the Brooch of Cawdor accidentally transfers Superman's powers into Batman. As they try to figure out how to fix this, Batman inexplicably grows mad with power, per the special catch behind the Brooch. The Brooch has the power to grant what anyone's heart desires at the price of something valuable. For Batman, he loses his mind.

In Bruce's mind, he uses his powers for good, finally cleaning up Gotham and relieved to hear that the city's "quiet" for once. At the same time, he begins beating people within inches of their lives, including Bane with whom he picks a fight. His wrath is unleashed not just on villains, but also on those trying to help him like Nightwing, whom Batman hospitalizes. He even fights off the Justice League who determine that Batman's gotten out of control. When neither the team nor a powerless Clark can get the job done, it's up to Zatanna in the end to reverse the spell, successfully restoring Superman's powers and Batman's sanity.
