Following an incredibly lucrative run in theaters where it banked more than $1.3 billion, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is coming to streaming next month. The animated film will debut exclusively on Peacock in the US on August 3.
A release on Peacock was always expected because production company Universal and Peacock share the same parent company in NBC Universal.
In addition to the movie itself, the Peacock release will include a «Field Guide» that includes a range of bonus features like cast interviews and more, according to Deadline. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently available to buy or rent digitally, but August 3 will be the first time that you can stream the film without paying extra.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is not only the highest-grossing video game movie of all time, but it's the third highest-grossing animated film ever, trailing only Frozen II and The Lion King.
It continues to be 2023's highest-grossing movie, outpacing Fast X ($700 million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($838 million), and every other movie released this year. The Super Mario Bros. Movie currently ranks as the 17th highest-grossing movie of all time.

Beyond a potential sequel, it's been reported that Illumination and Nintendo might make a Zelda film. Illumination's boss responded to these rumors but did not debunk them for whatever that is worth.
