A new game from Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds is set to be revealed during Gamescom 2022 later this month. The news was revealed by Geoff “Funky Shoes” Keighley earlier today in a Twitter post. Unknown Worlds then followed up, confirming it’ll be at the show with a turn-based, sci fi strategy game in tow.
What’s important about the announcement is that the game is not the one set in the Subnautica universe. Instead, Keighley reports it will be a “brand new sci-fi IP” from the team. In other words, the reveal will most likely be about the mysterious ‘Project M,’ which the studio has been working on for some time.
Unknown Worlds is apparently working on two games: Project M, and another in the Subnautica world. In February, our sister-site The Escapist published an interview with the Subnautica lead, David Kalina. In the interview, Kalina said the new game from Unknown Worlds is something “totally different” that what made the studio a star. The game will include a “‘Easy-to-learn, Hard-to-Master’ formula, aiming to be a game that is fun to watch others play.” At the time, Unknown Worlds was planning on the game to enter Early Access this year.
