The Game Awards 2022 will take place on Thursday, December 8, it has been announced.
The in-person event will again be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and be live streamed around the world.
The date and venue for the annual award show’s ninth edition were announced on Monday by event producer and host Geoff Keighley.
“We’ve been working all year to bring you something very special,” he tweeted.
This year’s event will introduce the Best Adaptation award, a category to recognise creative work that authentically adapts video game IP to other media.
The Game Awards 2021 was a major production featuring musical performances, celebrity guests, an awards show and a host of game reveals.

It Takes Two won the top prize at The Game Awards 2021, where it scooped three awards including the coveted Game of the Year.
Other headlines from the show included the reveals of Alan Wake 2, Sonic Frontiers, Star Wars Eclipse, Wonder Woman and Slitterhead.
The Game Awards enjoyed record viewership figures last year, according to its organisers.
Among the headline audience figures, the show delivered 85 million global livestream views across video and social media platforms, up from 83 million the year before and 45.2 million in 2019.
The official YouTube livestream also set a new record for watch time with over 1.75 million hours viewed on the main feed, which was up 14% compared to 2020’s record-setting livestream.
