PlayStation’s June 2, 2022 State of Play stream brought with it many major announcements and reveals, chief amongst them being the release date trailer for Capcom’s upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4. Other hot-ticket Sony-exclusives such asThe Callisto Protocol and Horizon Call of the Mountain shared the spotlight, but smaller indie and AA projects didn’t go without mention. Among the most exciting is perhaps Roll7 and Private Division’s Rollerdrome, a title that melds the mayhem of aTony Hawk game with the chaos of a fast-paced third-person shooter.
The roughly minute-long Rollerdrome reveal trailer shows off a stark comic book aesthetic that brings to mind titles like the 2019 Humble Bundle-published hit Void Bastards or, more aptly, the cult classic Sega Dreamcast game Jet Set Radio. Mixing the frenetic flow of roller-skating with shooting that appears to require deadeye accuracy, Rollerdrome will be a standout on PlayStation platforms.
PlayStation VR2 Seemingly Confirms 2023 Release Window
Developed by the team behind the skateboarding-themed OlliOlli games, Rollderdrome is poised for a mid-August release, meaning that fans won’t have to wait more than a few months to get their hands on it. Slated to debut on both PS4 and PS5, the game is technically a Sony exclusive on console, though it will also be available on PC. What’s more, Rollerdrome will seemingly be a timed exclusive for at least six months; some fine print in the trailer’s closing moments indicates that Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch ports could come around after mid-February of next year.
