Warning: SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 5.
Despite The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 focusing entirely on The Mandalorian, it still lays the groundwork for the theory that it will be Boba Fett, and not Din Djarin, who will ultimately reunite the Mandalorians as their ruler. While The Book of Boba Fett has been well-received, the show has thus far failed to dominate pop culture in the way The Mandalorian has. It seems an odd choice, then, that The Book of Boba Fett would take time away from Fett himself to focus on a character who needed little in the way of buzz. But the strange storytelling decision does set up exciting potential storylines for the future.
The Book of Boba Fett's Mandalorian-centric fifth episode may have garnered more interest in Din Djarin and Mandalorian culture than the previous four episodes did in Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. In addition to proving that Grogu doesn't need to appear in The Mandalorian season 3, the episode dove into Djarin's grief over losing his foundling, rivalries between Mandalorian factions, and the fate of Mandalore itself. It even made clear just why the Darksaber is such an important and coveted item.

This episode seems to suggest that the future of all Mandalorians will be a major story arc in The Mandalorian season 3, with Din Djarin at the center of it all. Alternatively, however, this supposed one-off could be setting up something more surprising, and more appropriate for a show called The Book of Boba Fett. This focus on Mandalorian culture and leadership may actually be pointing to the idea that Boba Fett, not Din Djarin, will come to unite and lead the galaxy's Mandalorian people.
