With the Sith hopefully defeated following Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Jedi will need to face new threats, and Lady Qi'ra's original-trilogy-era rule of Crimson Dawn is showing what they may look like. While the Sith will remain the Jedi’s most famous foes, the raw cunning of Qi’ra and her capability to play her criminal syndicate like a fiddle show that future leaders and forces of the galactic underground can be equally as dangerous. In the Crimson Reign event (the second part of Star Wars' new comic trilogy centered around Qi'ra syndicate), Crimson Dawn is showing that the galaxy's criminal interests can operate on the same underhanded but ambitious level as the Sith.
Qi’ra revealing her ultimate goal of overthrowing the Sith and the power structure that Palpatine has created in the galaxy begs the question of whether or not the Jedi could handle such a different kind of opponent, one without a set code and belief system to plan against. While the fact that the Empire survives this attempt is a given, the true scope of Qi’ra’s endeavor is still unseen. However, her and Crimson Dawn’s capabilities are plain.

Qi’ra’s ambition is unmatched, and she has the skills to back it up. Her threat assessment and flexible tactics are unparalleled, indicated by her capture of Cadeliah, heir to the Unbroken Clan and Mourner’s Wail syndicates in Crimson Reign #2, by Charles Soule and Steven Cummings. Her use of the Knights of Ren to target Darth Vader’s fortress opens the door for more syndicate type groups to utilize force-aligned groups without being bound to Sith doctrine, while her personal assassin Deathstick
